The Best Way To Protect Your Bones and Joints

The Best Way To Protect Your Bones and Joints

If you’re one of those people who experiences pain after exercising, struggles to walk a flight of stairs after the gym, or suffers from ‘going over’ on your ankle way too frequently – you’ll know the importance of taking proper care of your joints.

Whatever your age, gender or level of fitness, it’s vital to take care of your bones and joints, in order to retain strength, mobility and flexibility throughout the years. While they’re vital to our well-being, they’re also a part of our bodies that can easily be disregarded when we’re young, only to cause serious pain and health issues later on.

Not looking after your joints properly can lead to a nasty condition known as osteoarthritis – characterised by stiff, inflamed and painful joints. The main symptoms of osteoarthritis normally present themselves when the cartilage in joints wears thin causing the two bones to come in contact.

What causes Osteoarthritis?

While there are many risk factors for Osteoarthritis, the onset of the condition is normally down to a number of factors which all play a role together. These are:

  • Age – (particularly over the 40s) collagen levels decrease as we age
  • Obesity – extra weight on joints increases osteoarthritis risk
  • High impact sport
  • Genetic factors
  • Joint injuries

How else can you optimise your bone health?

joint effort

1) Up your Vitamin D intake

Healthy bones and joints need a diet rich in a range of minerals, proteins and fats. We all know about drinking milk to ensure you have enough calcium and Vitamin D, but these alone are not enough for strong, healthy bones. A range of bright-coloured fruit and vegetables are packed with the minerals needed by your body – bananas and raisins are good sources of potassium, while leafy vegetables, broccoli and peas are excellent. Both of these can help to build and preserve bone mass.

2) Increase your consumption of natural antioxidants and fatty acids

The biggest cause of joint deterioration is the build up of free radicals, causing joints to swell and become painful. Vitamins A, C and E are all rich in anti-oxidants, helping to tackle and prevent the effect of free radicals. These include fruits like oranges, mangoes and berries, oil-rich nuts and avocado, and complex carbohydrates such as brown rice and wholegrain bread. Oily fish like sardines and salmon are an excellent source of fatty acids, while for vegans, these can also be found in green vegetables, nuts and seeds.

3) Stay hydrated

Drinking lots of water is another great way to maintain joint health, ensuring your joints have a plentiful supply of synovial fluid, the liquid the cushions the space between bones in a joint. As you age, this naturally decreases, and dehydration can cause it to rapidly plummet, causing joints to rub against each other.

4) Exercise regularly

Regular low impact exercise helps to keep your bones and joints supple and flexible. Try regular stretches, yoga or walking to maintain flexibility and tone, without creating pressure or discomfort to the joints. Keeping your weight at a healthy level for your age and height will also prevent excess pressure on joints.

Extra vitamin boosters for bones….

Vitamins D and B12 all help to maintain bone density and strength, preventing fractures, osteoporosis and the build up of acid crystals which can create painful joints. Alongside these, the most important minerals for bone health are calcium, Magnesium and Potassium. While these are found in a range of foods, many of us don’t eat enough in our diets, so a good all-rounder supplement combining key vitamins and minerals is an ideal way of ensuring optimum bone health.

and for healthy joints….

Essential fatty acids are renowned for their anti-inflammatory properties and can relieve joint pain. Fish oil is a rich source of Omega 3 and can be found in a range of supplements. If you don’t like the fishy aftertaste that comes with fish oil capsules, Krill Oil is a great alternative – rich in Omega 3 and avoids any fishy reflux. Glucosamine and Chondroitin are both found naturally in the body in the development of cartilage in joints. Combined, they can improve resistance to joint compression and prevent osteoarthritis.

What have our customers been saying?

Overall: Worth Every Penny

I’ve been looking for a joint support multivitamin now for a couple of weeks having started to suffer from knee pain post sports. After a week to 10 days of taking this product I really started to feel the benefits. The pain I’ve been feeling has subsided significantly since and I will definitely be purchasing regularly. Quirky name also which is different to most brands I’ve seen whilst shopping around. Would recommend to all.

Overall: Amazing

After I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia i have struggled so much with joint pain for years! However after only a few weeks of taking this product my pain has reduced unbelievable amounts! Thank you for making a product that both helps my joints as well as prevents me from catching so many colds from the children I work with!

Overall: Say Goodbye to Joint Pain

After suffering from sports injuries for the past few years joint effort has really helped lower my pain. Definitely noticed a difference when I’m working out as I don’t see the same level of pain I used to.
