How To Deal With Stress At Work

Do you ever feel so busy making a living that you forget to make a life? We will inevitably all feel stress at one point in our lives, but it is how we deal with it that makes the impact. So, here, we explore three ideas that can help us to know how to deal with stress.

I used to be a teacher. When you commit to a job that is as consuming as teaching, you learn that making a living and making a life don’t really coincide. Sure the children leave at 3.15pm and the holidays are great, but all of the time you don’t spend in front of the children is spent planning, marking, scrutinising, and generally crying over how short your class falls of national expectations. So suddenly, your holidays are taken over by work and you run out of time in the day. Pretty soon you live simply to make a living. Your life becomes your job. Life becomes stressful. It becomes unsustainable.

Teaching may be a renowned stressful profession, but it certainly isn’t the only one. Actually, over 55% of us claim to be stressed at work.

Sleep More

Sounds simple, but sleep can elude us when we’re stressed. It’s important to keep to a routine to help your mind switch off and help your body relax. Turning off your phone and laptop is a must! A hot bath, warm drinks, and essential oils can help too. Some herbal extracts found in supplements, such as lemon balm and chamomile, and even probiotics like Inulin can help to promote sleep.

Get Active

When we are stressed, our bodies produce adrenaline and cortisol. Exercising and keeping active can help to metabolise excess of these by-products, which helps to keep your body a little calmer. Joining a gym class is a great way to work off excess stress while also socialising to boost your mood! Just make sure you protect yourself by supporting your energy levels and joints with vitamins and minerals.
