8 Lemon Beauty Hacks You Can Do At Home

When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make any one of these amazing beauty hacks to help get that summer glow.

Teeth Whitening on a budget

Mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice (or water) to make a paste. Brush with a dry toothbrush, leave the paste on for 1 minute, then rinse, so as to avoid the acid effecting the enamel.

Fake Tan Remover

Orange knees? No problem. Mix the juice of one lemon and a few tablespoons of salt together in a bowl, then spend a few minutes rubbing in the mixture before washing off.

Blackhead treatment

Lemons are antibacterial, therefore they can help treat acne. Squeeze some fresh lemon juice in a small bowl and dilute with a small amount of water. Apply directly to affected skin with the cotton ball before allowing it to dry naturally. Wash off by gently scrubbing.

Nail strengthener

Do you have weak or brittle nails that break easily? Mix a small amount of oil with lemon juice in a bowl, and soak your nails for 10 minutes once a week. Not only will it strengthen your nails, but it will cure any nasty discolouration too.

Cleansing wipes

Add a couple drops of lemon and tea tree oil in about 200 mils of lukewarm water. Use as toner or with cotton pads as a cleansing wipe for problematic or acne prone skin.

Skin brightener

Lemons are rich in vitamin C and citric acid, so they can help brighten and lighten your skin when used over time. Vitamin C is a great antioxidant for neutralizing free radicals and boosting collagen production, which can help lighten age spots. Don’t ditch the sun cream though, always wear SPF when using lemon juice on your skin as the citrus can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays.

Bye Bye Shiny Face

Lemon is great for reducing excess oil, especially on your T-Zone. Dab a few drops on your shiny areas to help minimise the shine.

Hair Lightener

The old classic you might tried in your youth. If you are a blondie (lucky you) add highlights to your bonnet by applying lemon juice to your hair before heading out for a day in the sun. Just make sure to use a deep conditioner after to combat the drying properties.
