Why Go Vegan?

Well, rumour has it, Beyonce and Jay-Z went vegan for a month when Veganuary first started in 2014 – is following in Queen B’s footsteps is a good enough reason to go animal-free? It was for 3,200 people! If that hasn’t worked for you, here’s some more legitimate reasons to go vegan…

For The Animals

Animals raised for human consumption are often treated poorly and suffer tremendously as a result of the Western diet. As demand for cheap meat increases, so does the trend of “factory farms” which confine large amounts of animals in restricted cages or pens. Here’s what happened when veganuary entered a pig farm, warning – results aren’t pretty!

For The Environment

The journey from farm to fork places a heavy burden on the environment; from the food and water to feed the animals to the transport and processing of the meat. The vegan diet requires about a third of the land needed for conventional Western diets, and 3.5 billion humans could live off a third of the food currently fed to livestock for meat eater’s use.  Switching to a vegan diet is evidently a far more sustainable diet for both co2 emissions and malnutrition rates, check out the vegan society’s environmental page for more information.

For Your Health

Since eating animal fats and protein has been linked hypertension, diabetes, cancer and heart disease, going cold turkey (pardon the pun), can minimise or completely prevent the risk of such diseases.
