What is HIIT?
HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a training technique in which you give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short recovery periods. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time, perfect if you’re too busy to fit in a full workout at the gym and requires no-equipment.
Where have I heard of it before?
The rise in popularity of HIIT came from the American workout phenomenon Insanity. Starting out life as an at-home DVD, Insanity is a 45 minute workout comprising of 100% intensity exercise in 3 minute intervals with 30 seconds rest in between. According to the Insanity web site, exercising at this extreme intensity level will help you burn up to 1,000 calories an hour.
