The Common Cold And A Lesson In Self Defence

At this time of year, we want to be at our peak. Christmas preparations are just around the corner and it’s nearly party season! But in reality, we don’t often feel at our best in November. It’s cold, it’s dark, and colds are everywhere.

If you’re in the office, or tube, or any public space just take a moment to look around you. How many people you spot sniffing, sneezing, and coughing? Maybe you’re one of them. Maybe it’s you’re throat feels like sandpaper. Maybe it’s you who can only breathe through one nostril. Maybe it’s your muscles aching so much it hurts to type.

At one time, I was always ill. Always. I worked in a primary school and from September to February I was ill. Blocked nose, dizzy head, scratchy voice. But I had no time to be ill. There were lessons to teach, learning goals to meet, and children to keep motivated. I was too busy. But in my rush to do everything yesterday, I neglected to think about my body’s self-defence mechanisms. With playground duties and admin dramas, I wasn’t eating well. With lesson planning and a constant stream of emails, I wasn’t sleeping well. I was quite literally running myself into the ground. So one day, I stopped. I realised that I had to give my body the things that it needed to survive. I had to look after myself.

Now, if this sounds familiar you need to read on.

Self Defence

I learnt my lesson in self-defence then. Now I religiously keep my immune system fighting fit with the essentials. Vitamin C seems to help me fight off colds a lot quicker. It is carried in our immune cells and comes into action during infection. Zinc is known for preventing colds. When taken at the early onset, I also find that it helps to reduce the severity of symptoms. But I’m careful not to take too much as it can make you feel unwell. I top up with vitamin D3 instead. It is used by the immune system to fight off bacteria and has recently been shown to have a big impact on avoiding the common cold. But taking all of these different supplements can take precious time and brain power. So, here at myvitamins, we developed the perfect all-in-one to make it simple.
