Can CLA Reduce Cellulite?

Can CLA Reduce Cellulite?

Conjugated Linoleic Acid or CLA as it is more commonly known, is a trans fatty acid found naturally in meat and dairy products. This fantastic fatty acid has been found to help reduce the appearance of nightmare C word, here’s how…

What is cellulite?

Cellulite, a horror word for most females, is a term used to describe the dimpled appearance caused by fat deposits just below the surface of the skin. Whilst researchers are unsure of what exactly causes it, it’s believed that cellulite is related to the body’s struggle to get rid of toxins, fluid and fat which becomes trapped under the skin. These trapped substances cause fibrous tissue to become hard, which causes the dreaded dimpling effect.

How can CLA help?

You might think we’re crazy telling you to take a fatty acid to get rid of condition CAUSED by fat. However, a recent clinical trial in China found that CLA can actually help lower your body fat percentage. The study took part over 12 weeks using 63 obese subjects and found that CLA supplementation saw an average bodyweight decrease of 0.7kg and fat percentage of 0.6%, ace!

Whilst further research is needed, there a few mechanisms that have been theorised as to how CLA works. Being a potent antioxidant, it is believed that CLA gets to work by getting rid of the nasty toxins and fluid that have accumulated under the skin, reducing the appearance of cellulite. CLA has also been found to interfere with lipoprotein lipase; the enzyme involved in storing fat, this therefore helps your body use existing fat for energy.

Whilst it must be noted cellulite can affect both overweight and underweight people, it’s believed that excess fat can make the condition appear aesthetically worse. The power of CLA to reduce body fat percentage is therefore accountable for the primary mechanism in cellulite reduction.
